Denali, AK - Fairbanks, AK

119.4 miles

The return drive to Fairbanks was uneventful other than a gas stop where a tour bus had also stopped with visitors from New Zealand. Needless to say, we spent a LOT of time visiting with them about our cars and our adventure!

In the evening, we "ran with the reindeer", which turned out to be a disappointment. The web site looked great, but in reality, it was a small hobby farm with only 8 reindeer, one was 2 months old, one was 13 and suffered from severe arthritis, and we were asked to avoid interaction as much as possible with one castrated male, leaving 5 for a group of about 20 people. Our impression from the web site was that there were more animals in the herd. Also, three of the reindeer were led on lead ropes during the walk through the woods. However, the owners were very knowledgeable about reindeer and provided a lot of background information.

Our shuttle driver (Linda) who we had scheduled for a couple transports was a real live wire and reminded us all of Whoopi Goldberg as they both have similar personalities!
